Wednesday, September 13, 2000 Prague -- A
three-day Counter Summit during the IMF/World
Bank Conference was announced today by INPEG

lectures and discussions exploring the
devastating impact of World Bank and IMF
policies.
Each
day of the Counter Summit will focus on a
different issue at each different location.
Issues will include economic globalization,
ecology, labor, and grassroots organizations.
The
Counter Summit will take place at three locations
in Prague on Sept 22-24 from 10:00 to 19:00, with
slight variations per location. The locations
are:
- Cultural
House Domovina, Na Maninach 32, Praha 7;
- Cinema
Aero, Biskupcova 31, Praha 3;
- Cultural
House Vltavska, Bubenska 1, Praha 7.
Speakers
will include Walden Bello, co-director of Focus
on the Global South and widely respected author
of A Siamese Tragedy: Development and
Disintegration in Modern Thailand (1998);
Silvia Federici, expert on IMF-sponsored
structural adjustment in Africa; and Samir Amin,
Egyptian economist and author of many books
including The Age of Globalization.
"We
consider this a forum for exploring how the IMF
and World Bank undercuts democracy, increases
human suffering and destroys the
environment," said Countersummit Organizer
David Lorenc.
